Camp Hillcroft is the place to be for summer! I have 2 children enrolled who count down the days till camp every winter. From the nurturing and caring staff, to the exciting activities, fun after camp activities and everything in between. And most importantly the friendships and memories my kids are making is one for the books!
Outdoor activities, arts and crafts, and new friends are a few of many reasons to enroll your children in a day camp this summer. Ensure your kids enjoy exciting, fun adventures in the sun this year by taking the time to find the perfect camp. Go beyond day camp websites and social media pages—visit the summer activity centers to make the best decision for your young ones.
Visit the day camps to meet the directors and counselors. Watch how they interact with each other and the children to get a clear idea of how your kids will be treated. Do the directors and counselors appear dedicated to their jobs? Are they enthusiastic and always ready to help a child or answer their questions? Do they remain patient and provide complete directions before an activity takes place? If the day camp features a lake or pool, are the lifeguards experienced, trained, and always watching the swimmers?
Walk around the grounds to get a feel for the camp. Would you want to spend your summer days there if you were a child? Is the premise well-maintained and attractive to both children and parents? Tour interior spaces as well, such as cabins used for snack time, arts and crafts, and performing arts rehearsals and events. Are they also clean and free of anything that could harm a child, such as assorted sharp edges? Think about how you feel at the camp—are your feelings positive, or do you think you should look elsewhere?
Speak with parents whose children are currently attending the day camp. Learn whether their children are first-timers or return visitors, and ask questions that provide a clear picture of what your children can expect. Inquire further about the counselors and directors, the types of summer activities the kids enjoy, if the children come home every day satisfied with the day’s events, and anything else you feel is pertinent.
