A Typical Day at Hillcroft

Written by Hillcroft Staff. Posted in Camp Information

A typical Day at Hillcroft is very structured and varied with over 30 different activities.  We believe a campers day should include swimming and both physical and creative experiences.  Campers arrive at 8:45am, Program begins at 9am and ends at 3:40pm.  After snack and a brief closure with their counselors the campers go home at 4:30pm.....tired yet fulfilled!!!

A Typical Camp Day for our 4-7 year olds

Each morning there are 3 activity periods for the campers, each lasting 50 minutes.

Lunch is served at 11:45, followed by a half hour of rest/quiet play time.  In the afternoon there are again 3 periods of varied activities.  One of them is a swim and campers also enjoy activities such as Farm, Nature, Outdoor Adventure and Cooking.  At the end of the day the campers sit down for snack and counselors help them pack their bags before dismissing at 4:30p

A Typical Camp Day for our 8-12 year olds

The Philosophy behind our programming for this age group is based on the simple fact that these campers NEED and THRIVE in a choice based curriculum.  Therefore each period offers at least 4 different choices for the campers to choose from.  The only mandatory activities are Instructional Swim, Free Swim and Team Sports.  The campers have to swim twice a day and participate in team Sports approximately 4 times a week.  In the morning there are 4 periods and the choices offered are age appropriate and stimulating (see our section on activities).

Lunch is served at 12:40 and then in the afternoon there are 3 periods, again based on choice.  Snack is at 3:45pm followed by dismissal at 4:30pm.

Our unique 8th and 9th Grade Program

Our Teenage Program and day has been specifically formatted to appeal to this age group.  As well as choosing their own activities from within our master schedule, our teenagers also go on weekly day trips, such as Bowling, Water parks, Rollerskating etc....  The highlight of our first session is a 3 day/2 overnight trip to Boston or Montreal...this is very much enjoyed by all!!!!

We also offer special activities for our older campers where they can try their hand at being an assistant with some of our younger campers or they can choose to participate in activities that are not part of our regular schedule, for example golf with a golf pro, cake decorating, candle making etc...  We are very proud of this program which appeals to our Teenagers and is enjoyed by all!!!!

Special times at Hillcroft!

Our 4-7 year olds experience a Cook Out Hillcroft style once during each 4 week session.  Campers can choose to stay after regular camp hours and enjoy some extra time at our Camp Lake before having a Hot Dog Bar BQ and being picked up at 7pm.  Our 7 year olds stay on camp grounds and enjoy extra swimming and sport time before their Bar BQ and they get picked up at 8:15pm.

For our 8 and older campers we offer the amazing experience of a camp group sleepover!!!!  Again once during each 4 week session our campers can choose to stay after regular dismissal for a Camp Sleepover!!!  Our campers play sports, go swimming, have a BAR BQ and then they get to experience a traditional Campfire complete with marshmallows and campfire stories.  Before bed time campers play a giant game of flashlight tag.  Counselors sleep in the bunks with the children.

Hillcroft's Special Festivals

Three times during the summer we change the regular format of our day to add some extra fun days into our campers Hillcroft Experience.  We divide these special days into 3 Festivals...one celebrating the heart, one the imagination and one the body.  Our festival of the Heart is called International Children's Festival and we aim to open our camper's eyes and hearts to the world around them.  Campers realize through activities that there are children in need throughout the world.  This Festival culminates with a carnival where all monies raised are contributed to children's charities that our campers vote on.

During this time we also run our very own Relay for Life.  The Festival of the Imagination is also known as Arts Festival and it happens every year at an unannounced time presenting a surprise day for our campers!!!!  For one day Hillcroft is transformed into a Fairy Tale, Disney Show or Movie and our staff dress up in costume and act out scenes from the theme.  Campers participate in activities related to the theme and use their imaginations to picture themselves inside the book or fairy tale!!!!!!!

Our final Festival celebrating our bodies is called Friendship Games and it is our very own Hillcroft Olympics!!!  Campers get to experience the excitement of participating as a Team and playing all different kinds of sports and participating in various swimming events!!!!
